I will dare to say
that we all know or at least we have the vague idea of the story of the feeding
of the five thousand men.
“…Here is a boy with
five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so
many?...”
John 6:9
After Jesus preached,
the apostles suggested Him to dismiss the crowd so that they could go to rest
and eat. He refuted them and they stared at each other for, what will they eat?
Some scholars of the Bible affirm that in that moment there could have been
between fifteen thousand and twenty thousand people. However at that time the
apostles did not have more than ‘eight months’ wages. What use would they have
for so many people?
Surrendering your
gifts to the Lord is all what it takes to make a miracle. Couldn’t Jesus
multiply the money they had to go and buy food? Is it possible that among
fifteen thousand men, only one had food? It is not what we have, but what we
are willing to put to God’s service.
We human beings often
act selfishly, thinking to share our food to other turns unconceivable. I can
imagine that a lot more persons had more food than five loaves of bread and two
fish, but they kept them for themselves. After all, they had to eat. The little
boy, out of his heart, offered everything he had to Jesus with faith, knowing
that He would do something marvelous with it. I am confident that when we get
to heaven, we will meet that little boy which faith was more than enough to
feed a multitude.
Read please 2
Corinthians 9, verses 10 to 15.
“…Now he who supplies
seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store
of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness…”
2 Corinthians 9:
10
God does not care if
we give a dollar or a million dollars. What He wants is that we have a heart
willing to surrender to His feet. He wants us to give all what we are to be
used in his perfect work. It is the heart and attitude what counts, not the
quantity.
God provides the seed
to the sower. Do not be afraid of what we are going to say to others. That is
the Holy Spirit job. The only thing we have to do is give our life to Him and
He will put the words in out tongues to sow the seed.
God will multiply the
seed that we sow. According to the land were we sow, that will be the harvest
we will get. It does not matter if the person believes right away or not. It is
not our job to make it grow; the Holy Spirit will take care of that. God has
His own times and He knows which the right moment to bear fruits.
God will increase the
fruits of our righteousness. It is impossible to think about the seed without
thinking about the fruit. At its time it will grow and we will be able to see
what we sowed. That what we sowed, we will also reap.
That service which we
have been called to do will bear many fruits. Primordially, I can assure you
that God will supply our needs. Then, we will thank God and we will testify to
others. Lastly, God will be glorified and the Church edified.
Christ is the seed. So
as the seed has to die in order to develop itself and bear much fruit, He came
to this world to die so that we could live. He became so that we may become. Do
not keep the happiness of sharing God’s word. If we try to keep it, it will
die; but if we share it, it will bear fruits and will be of great edification.
Before I leave, I want
to ask you something;
What are we going to
do with today’s seed?
Thank you very much
and have a wonderful and fructiferous day.
